10th Annual Autumn Giardinity 2022
Things to do at the Giardinity
A History of Beauty
The story of an eclectic garden and a 16th-century Venetian villa.
Houses and gardens often have a special atmosphere that the sensitive visitor feels and rejoices in.
It is an atmosphere due to the personality of the person who chose where to build their home and how to create their garden. One’s own Eden. It is an atmosphere that can permeate a place for a long time, always, even as the centuries pass.
This is the atmosphere that the Villa Pisani in Vescovana maintains and communicates, where the soul and wisdom of Evelina van Millingen Pisani still pervade, intact and intense. An emotional experience that can still be felt.
Four times a day the visits will be conducted by young guides who will involve the listener in an extraordinary account of the history of the villa and the garden, the spirit of which is expressed and perceived so intensely that it becomes a place of choice for cultural walks at a time when the leaves are tinged with autumn colours. This will not fail to stir deep emotions and give voice to the powerful genius loci of the historic villa: Evelina van Millingen Pisani.

Villa Pisani Bolognesi Scalabrin
On the site of a medieval Este fortress stands the Palladian villa commissioned in the early 16th century by Cardinal Francesco Pisani, a Venetian patrician and Bishop of Padua. The Renaissance palace, with frescoes by Veronese, Zelotti, Varotari and the Flemish artist Toeput, was built as the administrative seat of the landed estates acquired in 1478 in the Bassa Padovana. Evelina van Millingen, the last Countess Pisani, was born in 1830 in Constantinople to an English family of Flemish origin and a French Turkish mother. With far-sightedness, acumen and the wisdom of her cosmopolitan culture, she created a splendid eclectic ‘Italian-style’ garden around the palace, with English, Islamic and Dutch influences and references. She also created an extraordinary park full of centuries-old trees of every species, designed by the famous 19th-century English garden architect, Sir Reginald Blomfield.
